Greyabbey Flood Alleviation Scheme– Weekend Road Closure

Work is now well underway on NI Water’s Greyabbey Flood Alleviation scheme. The entire project, which involves a £1 million investment to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the village and improvement work at Greyabbey Wastewater Treatment Works will be completed by Autumn 2012.

When complete, the project will improve the local sewerage infrastructure and wastewater services in the area. The project will also reduce the risk of flooding in the village and will improve the water quality in Strangford Lough.

The work will shortly be entering the final phase within the public roads and for health and safety reasons, it will be necessary to close the road at the junction of Main Street/North Street/Church Street for the weekend commencing Friday 27th April to allow us to complete the sewer improvement work at this junction. The road closure at the junction will commence at 6pm on Friday 27th April and will reopen again on Monday 30th April at 6am.

The remaining work on North Street will then commence on Monday 30th April and will last approximately 6 weeks. A traffic light system will be in operation, but two-way traffic will be maintained at all times.

As with all work of this nature, there will be an element of disruption, and NI Water and its contractor, BSG Ltd, would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and cooperation, and assure them that we will do everything we can to complete this essential improvement work as quickly as possible. All traffic diversions will be clearly signposted.

NI Water would also like to remind the travelling public that all businesses in Greyabbey Village will be opened for business as usual and access will be maintained for properties in the area.
