Work to Commence at Tamnaherin

NI Water is pleased to announce that work is now underway to upgrade the Wastewater Treatment Works at Tamnaherin. Over £1 million will be invested in this upgrade and the Mayor - Alderman Maurice Devenney joined the NI Water team on site to view progress on the improvements, which will be completed in early 2013.

John McGrane, NI Water Project Manager for the scheme said: “The new plant at Tamnaherin will benefit the local community by improving wastewater services in the area. The modern new processes being installed will increase the capacity of the treatment works to accommodate development in the area for the foreseeable future and will bring about environmental improvements, ensuring that wastewater treatment in the locality meets Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) compliance standards.”

“NI Water is currently investing approximately £3 million per week improving water and wastewater services throughout Northern Ireland and the upgrade of Tamnaherin is one of the many projects being undertaken to deliver a 21st century infrastructure to Northern Ireland.”

The Mayor of Londonderry Alderman Maurice Devenney added:
“The council welcomes this scheme which will bring significant benefits to wastewater services in the area for customers and will allow for future growth in the Tamnaherin area.”

Shearwater Consortium is the contractor for this project with AECOM providing design and technical support.
