Upgrade for Drumaroad and Attical WwTWs

NI Water is currently investing over £850,000 to upgrade wastewater treatment works in Drumaroad and Attical as part of its multi-million pound Rural Wastewater Investment Programme (RWwIP).

The sewage works in both villages are being totally refurbished with modern wastewater systems being installed to improve the quality of treated effluent and bring it into line with the latest EU Directives.

Commenting on the scheme, Martin Gillen, Senior Project Manager for NI Water said: “The Rural Wastewater Investment Programme is a dedicated programme of work being carried out by NI Water to upgrade wastewater facilities in villages spanning the length and breadth of Northern Ireland.

“This dedicated rural scheme is both complex and logistically challenging but the rewards are far-reaching in terms of environmental improvements. Each project represents a significant investment by NI Water to implement the latest technology available to raise the standard of wastewater treatment so that rural communities can benefit from improved air and river water quality.”

Over the last three years NI Water, through the RWwIP, has invested £22m in modernising wastewater treatment in rural areas like Drumaroad and Attical. Other local wastewater treatment works to have benefitted from the NI Water rural scheme include Maghera WwTW, Monteith WwTW, Ballyward WwTW, Katesbridge Road WwTW, Corbet WwTW and Ballycoshone Road WwTW.
