Vital Emergency Sewer Improvement Work commences on Donegall Road

09 November 2010 11:38

NI Water is scheduled to commence emergency sewer repair work on the Donegall Road approaching Shaftesbury Square junction. Work will commence on Monday 15th November 2010 and will last approximately 5 weeks.

NI Water’s Project Sponsor, Keith Haslett, explains:

“NI Water’s engineers identified an urgent need to replace the sewerage network in the area. The work has to take place immediately to alleviate potential localised ‘out of sewer’ flooding. We are acutely aware this is an extremely busy junction and have done everything in our power to maintain traffic flows around the area. This includes plans to work seven days a week to complete the work as quickly as possible.

“We have written letters to local businesses and local representatives to inform them of this vital work and to provide them with contact details should they have any questions or concerns.”

Temporary emergency traffic flows are as follows:

Traffic flows will be restricted by a lane closure on the Donegall Road, meaning that access to the Donegall Road will be for outbound traffic only from the city centre.
Traffic heading into the city centre will be diverted through lower and upper Sandy Row.

NI Water and its contractor O’Neill Contracts would like to thank the public and traders in advance for their co-operation during this vital improvement work and assure them that every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum while this essential work is completed.
