Sewer Improvement Work in Toome

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) will begin the last section of pipelaying in Toome on Monday 8th November as part of its £5m Toome/Creagh Wastewater Treatment Project.

The work, which will be completed within two weeks, will involve the installation of a new pumping main along a short section of the Hillhead Road to take flows from the village of Toome to the new Wastewater Treatment Works in Creagh.

The installation of the new main will necessitate a temporary lane closure along the section of the Hillhead Road which crosses the bridge.

NI Water and its contractors, Geda Construction have carefully programmed the pipelaying to minimise disruption to road users in the area, with no work taking place on the main carriageway during peak commuting hours.

Between 9.30am and 4.00pm, a one-lane system will be implemented with automated 'stop/go' boards to keep traffic moving as quickly as possible.

NI Water would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents and business owners of Toome for their ongoing co-operation during these essential sewerage upgrades.

When complete at the end of 2010, the new Toome/Creagh Wastewater Treatment Project will provide the area with a modern wastewater system which will facilitate future residential and industrial development and bring about significant environmental benefits for local communities.
