Sewer Improvement Scheme to Commence in Newcastle

19 October 2010 11:46

NI Water is currently embarking on essential sewer improvement work this month in the Castlepark area of Newcastle. The work, which represents an investment of £2.2million by NI Water, will involve the construction of a new Sewage Pumping Station and the upgrading of sewers in the Castlepark area. The entire scheme is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.

This essential work will reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding, improve the current sewerage system to meet future growth and development in the area, and will help meet EU and Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) regulations.

Unfortunately with work of this nature, there will be an element of disruption. There will be increased construction activity within the Castle park area and increased construction traffic travelling to and from the park along the Shimna Road. It is anticipated that this part of the construction work will be completed before the summer of 2011.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation during this vital improvement work and every effort will be made to keep any disruption to a minimum.
