£5 MIllion Investment at Newtownbreda Begins

28 June 2010 8:08

NI Water is scheduled to start essential work on upgrading Newtownbreda Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) in July 2010.

The work, which represents an investment of £5 million by NI Water, will enhance the service provided to the area by reducing the environmental impact of the Works while allowing for further development.

The work, which is scheduled for completion in 18 months, will primarily take place within the existing site at Newtownbreda WwTW.

Project Manager, Derek Crabbe, explains:

“This work is good news for the community within Newtownbreda and the approx 40,000 population of commercial and domestic premises that are served by the Treatment Works.

“It involves upgrading and increasing the treatment capacity, refurbishing existing elements of the process, improving sludge management facilities and odour treatment within the Works.”

NI Water would like to thank residents in the area for their patience and co-operation during this period of vital work. Letters will be distributed to households and businesses in the area detailing the plans for the Works.
