NI Water On Schedule With Sewer Laying in Toome

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) would like to announce that work has got underway on the second section of pipe laying along Main Street Toome as part of its £5m wastewater upgrade scheme for the Toome/Creagh area.

The laying of the new large diameter sewer will require the extension of the one-way system right along Main Street while traffic flow on Market Street will remain reversed.

Kieran Grant, NI Water Project Manager for the work said: “This new gravity sewer is part of a wider programme of network improvements being carried out to facilitate development and bring about significant environmental benefits in the area.

“We realise that projects of this nature can have an impact on the local community and greatly appreciate the ongoing co-operation of all businesses and residents in the area. NI Water and its contractors, GEDA Construction, will continue to employ the latest tunnelling methods to minimise the impact in Toome and will work to carry out the project as quickly as possible.”

The £5m Toome/Creagh project will also see the installation of new sewers along the Blackpark and Derrygarve Roads; the refurbishment of some existing pipelines and the upgrade of a number of associated pumping stations to link the wider Toome area with the modern new wastewater treatment works under construction in Creagh.
