NI Water To Invest £4.3m In South Lisburn Area Over Next 3 Years

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) is pleased to announce that a planned £4.3 million programme of improvements to wastewater services will take place in the South Lisburn area over the next three years.

The first phase of this scheme will involve initial improvements at the existing New Holland Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) and the replacement of Hookes Corner WwTW with a state-of-the-art pumping station. These improvements will result in an improved level of service and will also accommodate future development in the area.

Bob Rowntree, NI Water’s Project Manager said:

“The improvements will provide an enhanced quality of service for our customers in the wider Lisburn area. We were keen to develop a site that would improve wastewater facilities, improve water quality in the River Lagan and meet environmental compliance standards. The improved wastewater facilities will also meet the growing needs of the area and the additional treatment required at peak times.”

The South Lisburn Wastewater Improvement Scheme will be completed in partnership with Biwater and Grahams. Work is expected to commence in July 2010 and will begin at New Holland WwTW.
