Brighter Nights Can Mean Bigger Risks for Local Children

As the evenings become brighter, NI Water’s education team are visiting local schools to remind children to stay safe around areas of construction.

The safety message comes as NI Water begins a £1million upgrade to the wastewater facilities at Cloghmills Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW).

Work on the site, which is situated on the edge of Cloghmills village, is due to begin this month. It is part of long-term plans to provide an effective and reliable WwTW for the area which has experienced significant residential growth in recent years. The work will ensure NI Water also meets future Northern Ireland Environmental Agency and European standards.

NI Water’s Education Officer, Anna Murray explains:

“Understandably, some children are drawn to construction sites as exciting places to explore, but they are not playgrounds and playing on them can have dangerous consequences.

“Safety barriers, fencing and signage will be put in place to warn people that construction is in operation. However we would urge parents to help us maintain public safety by explaining to their children the dangers connected to playing around construction zones.”
