£4m Upgrade to Water Infrastructure in Belfast City Centre

The £80m Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme, to upgrade the water infrastructure across Northern Ireland, will soon commence in Belfast city centre. This investment by Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) is required to protect public health, meet European standards on water quality and respond to increasing demand.



Paul Bryce, NI Water Project Manager said: “The scheme which involves replacing approximately 7km of watermains in Belfast city centre represents a significant investment. It will provide a modern water distribution network, which will meet the present and future needs of customers.



“Work is expected to get underway at the end of July and will take approximately 5 months to complete.”



NI Water is committed to minimising disruption for local residents and businesses and will keep the public fully informed about its progress, including any road closures or traffic restrictions. Part of this process has involved consultation with the surrounding community prior to work commencement and significant dialogue with other service providers including Roads Service, Translink, Belfast City Centre Management and NI Fire & Rescue Service.
