This will also inform you if you need to extend the public water or sewer network to your site and if an Impact Assessment is required.
• You must not build too close to a watermain or sewer for safety and maintenance reasons so you may have to amend your design or speak to us about diverting a watermain or sewer.

• Support your application for planning permission where we have identified no capacity issues.
• Agree to conditioned planning where you have worked with us through our pre-planning process and agreed a solution to overcome known capacity constraints.
• If you have applied for planning before engaging with to us and there are constraints, we will recommend to the planning authority that your application should be refused and you should come and talk to us regarding completion of an Impact Assessment.
• Once we have completed an Impact Assessment and a viable solution has been identified and delivery agreed, we will revise our recommendation to the Planning Authority.
• When you have full planning permission, we will support you with your applications to connect to our Water and Sewer Networks

• Application(s) should be made between 6-13 weeks before each section of main is required.
• NIW will advise you of any payment required.
• The Developer is responsible for excavation and reinstatement.
• We will deliver your watermain installation within a 3- month period.
• NIW will carry out the watermain laying, swabbing, disinfecting and testing.

• Your Article 161 construction work must comply with Sewers for Adoption (NI) and associated NI Water Technical Specifications.
• When you have the works completed (allowing for all sewer lines to be live) and a minimum of 51% of the premises served by the sewers are occupied, you are required to submit an application via our online portal (for Preliminary Adoption).
• We will contact you to arrange a mutually suitable time to complete an inspection.
• Once we are satisfied that the work has been constructed to the approved standards and any identified remedial works rectified, we will issue a Preliminary Certificate of Completion.
• Following Preliminary Adoption, a maintenance period of a minimum of 12 months exists before you can apply for final adoption.
